The default tariff is illustrative, not a current price cap. Standing charges are excluded. Thermostats, standby power and variable power draw can change actual use.
How it works
Energy in kWh = watts ÷ 1,000 × hours per day × days. Cost = kWh × unit rate in pence ÷ 100.
A quick example
A 1,000 W appliance running for 2 hours a day over 30 days uses 60 kWh. At 25p per kWh, that costs £15.
Good to know
Should I include my standing charge?
This tool estimates one appliance’s energy use. A standing charge applies to your supply even when that appliance is off, so it is excluded.
Is the label wattage exact?
Rated wattage may be a maximum. For a better estimate, use measured average power from a suitable energy monitor.
